Ultra-High Frequency Cloud: 3 Layers of Data Protection for Ultimate Peace of Mind
In our previous posts, we introduced the Ultra-High Frequency Cloud platform and showcased its blazing-fast performance through extensive benchmarks. Today, we’re fulfilling another promise: a deep dive into the robust backup mechanisms that safeguard your valuable data on this cutting-edge platform.
In the world of web hosting, few things are as devastating as losing your valuable data. Your website’s data represents countless hours of work, creativity, and investment, and its protection is paramount. Whether it’s a website crash, a cyberattack, or even a simple human error, the consequences of data loss can be catastrophic. That’s why we’ve built a robust 3-layer backup system into our Ultra-High Frequency Cloud platform, ensuring that your critical data remains safe, secure, and readily available, no matter what challenges come your way.
Understanding the Layers
Our 3-layer backup strategy is designed to provide comprehensive protection against data loss, offering you peace of mind and the confidence to focus on growing your online presence.
Let’s explore each layer in detail and understand how they work together to safeguard your valuable data:
JetBackup – Daily
We leverage on this powerful tool to take incremental backups of your cPanel accounts daily, storing them offsite for up to 90 days. The backups are stored within the same continent as the cloud servers for quick access, but in a different region to ensure redundancy.
JetBackup offers a user-friendly interface within cPanel, allowing you to easily restore or download individual files, databases, emails, and more with just a few clicks. It’s your go-to solution for quick and granular self-service restores.
cPanel Backups – Monthly
Once a month, we create a complete backup of each cPanel account, capturing all files, databases, emails, settings, and configurations. These backups are stored in Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive for up to 6 months, providing a long-term safety net for your data.
While these backups aren’t accessible for self-service restores, you can contact us to request a full account restoration if needed. Please note that accessing these backups may incur a fee due to AWS retrieval costs.
Disaster Recovery (DR) Backups – Weekly
Leveraging the power of virtualization, we take a weekly snapshot (image) of our entire cloud servers. These images are stored offsite and allow us to quickly recover the entire server environment in case of a major disaster.
While these backups are primarily for our internal disaster recovery purposes, they provide an additional layer of protection for your data.
Why 3 Layers?
Our multi-layered backup approach ensures comprehensive data protection, exceeding the industry-standard 3-2-1 backup rule.
This widely recognized best practice recommends:
- 3 Copies of Your Data: Maintain three separate copies of your data (the original plus two backups).
- 2 Different Media: Store your backups on two distinct storage media types (e.g., hard drive and cloud storage).
- 1 Offsite Copy: Keep one backup copy in a geographically separate location to protect against local disasters.
Exceeding Expectations
Our 3-layer backup system not only adheres to the 3-2-1 rule but surpasses it in several ways:
- All Backups Offsite: Unlike traditional 3-2-1 setups that might keep one backup on-site, all our backups are stored offsite in secure data centers, eliminating any risk associated with local hardware failures or disasters.
- Diverse Storage Formats and Providers: We utilize multiple backup formats (incremental and full) and store backups with different providers across geographically dispersed locations. This diversification minimizes the risk of data loss due to any single provider or location issue.
- Additional Disaster Recovery Layer: Our weekly server images add an extra layer of protection beyond the typical 3-2-1 rule, allowing us to quickly restore the entire server environment in the event of a catastrophic event.
